This page explains the NGO Darpan login step by step: where the real login page is, how sign up differs from sign in, what to do when you forget the password or the OTP does not come, and how to stay safe. Darpan Portal Guide is an independent guide. It is not the official site and is not linked to NITI Aayog. The only official address is ngodarpan.gov.in.

Where is the official NGO Darpan login page

NGO Darpan is the online platform of NITI Aayog for NGOs and voluntary organisations, built with the National Informatics Centre (NIC). NITI Aayog's own pages now also call it the NPO Darpan portal, so you may see either name on the screen. The Darpan NGO portal sits at ngodarpan.gov.in. Type that address yourself in the browser. Do not trust a link from an unknown message or an advertisement.

Many people search for "NITI Aayog login" or "ngo portal" and land on look-alike pages. A real government page will end in .gov.in or .nic.in. If a page asks for money to "activate" your Darpan account, close it.

Sign up or sign in: which one do you need

People often mix up the two. Here is the simple rule:

  • Sign up is done only once, by an NGO that has never registered. It creates the account. You give the NGO name, a contact mobile number and an email, and confirm with OTPs. The full process is on our NGO Darpan registration page.
  • Sign in (the NGO Darpan sign in, often called the Darpan NGO login) is for an NGO that already has an account. You use it to finish the profile, generate the Unique ID, update details or download the Darpan certificate.

If your NGO already has a Darpan Unique ID, do not sign up again with a new mobile number. A second account causes confusion later with PAN checks. Recover the old account instead.

What you use as the login ID

The official sign up guide says the login ID can be any one of three things: the NGO's PAN, the registered mobile number, or the registered email. With it you type the password and the security code (captcha) shown on the screen. So the "Darpan ID login" is a bit of a myth: you normally do not type the Unique ID itself to sign in. You get the Unique ID after login, once the profile is verified. Read more on our Darpan ID page.

The password you set at sign up must have at least one capital letter, one number and one special character, as per the official guide. Write down which mobile and email you used. Many NGOs lose access because the person who registered has left.

Darpan login is not the same as a ministry grant login

Ministries run their own grant portals. These use your Darpan Unique ID and NGO PAN at registration, but they have their own user ID and password. For example, the NGO login of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities grant portal asks for its own user ID, and the Ministry of Culture and other ministries ask you to quote the Darpan ID in each application. The MSJE NGO login for Ministry of Social Justice grants is also separate. See our MSJE grants guide for that one.

So if your Darpan password works but a ministry portal says "invalid user", the problem is in the ministry portal account, not in Darpan.

Forgot password and OTP problems

The official guide describes a Forget Password link on the sign in screen. You enter your login ID and the captcha, an OTP comes to you, and you set a new password. Some points from experience:

  • The OTP goes to the mobile and email saved in the account. If that SIM is no longer active, the OTP will not reach you.
  • Wait a minute or two before asking for a new OTP. Several requests in a row can make the older OTPs useless.
  • Type the OTP fresh. Do not paste spaces.
  • Try another browser or clear the browser cookies. An official ministry FAQ for NGO portal users gives this same advice for form problems.

An older Ministry of Culture notice asked NGOs who had lost their Darpan ID or password to write to ngo@india.gov.in with the NGO's details. Check the official FAQ page on ngodarpan.gov.in for the current helpdesk before you write.

Changing the registered mobile number

If you can still log in, look for the contact or key contact section in the profile and update the number there. Exact menu names may differ, as the portal is being upgraded. If you cannot log in because the old mobile is gone, write to the helpdesk from the NGO's registered email. Attach a request on the NGO letterhead signed by the president or secretary, with the NGO PAN and Unique ID. Our Darpan errors and fixes page covers this and other account issues.

Keep your NGO Darpan portal login safe

The Darpan account controls your NGO's public record. Anyone with access can change office bearer details. Follow these rules:

  • Never share the OTP with anyone, including people who call saying they are from NITI Aayog. Government staff do not ask for your OTP.
  • Use an NGO email that the board controls, not a volunteer's personal email.
  • Keep the login details in the NGO's records, so a change of secretary does not lock you out.
  • Only log in on ngodarpan.gov.in. If an agent offers to "do the login" for you, do not hand over the password. Sit with them and type it yourself.

Before you start, keep the papers listed on our documents for Darpan page ready, so the session does not time out while you search for files. To check how your NGO appears to the public after login, use the NGO Darpan search. New to all this? Start at our home page.
